Quickstart

Use DataTF with Azure Databricks. AWS and GCP are not supported or verified export targets.

Choose your platform

1. Install

Release notes · SHA-256 checksums.

Terminal
curl -fsSL https://datatf.io/install.sh | sh
PowerShell
irm https://datatf.io/install.ps1 | iex

The script verifies the release checksum and installs one binary.

Or download the archive

Extract the archive. Open Terminal in the extracted folder. macOS marks browser downloads, so run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ./datatf before the first run.

Select Extract All. Open PowerShell in the extracted folder.

Extract the archive. Open a terminal in the extracted folder.

2. Connect

Install the Databricks CLI. Log in with your Azure Databricks workspace URL.

Workspace login
databricks auth login --host "https://<workspace-host>" --profile analytics

3. Export

Terminal
datatf export --profile analytics --scaffold
PowerShell
datatf export --profile analytics --scaffold

Your Terraform files are in datatf-workspace/.

If you downloaded the archive instead, run ./datatf from the extracted folder.

If you downloaded the archive instead, run .\datatf.exe from the extracted folder.

--scaffold adds module calls, variables, provider settings, and version constraints. The default root calls the workspace pattern. Add --module-layout resources to call individual resource modules instead.

Choose the layout before the first import. Changing layouts changes Terraform addresses. See module layouts for details.

Review and import with Terraform

Review export-report.json, terraform.tfvars, and imports.tf. Resolve partial exports before an import. Each resource must have one state owner.

Install Terraform 1.7 or later. Configure the backend for this root before initialization.

cd datatf-workspace
terraform init
terraform plan -out=tfplan

The plan must contain imports with 0 to add, 0 to change, and 0 to destroy. Apply only after you approve the plan.

terraform apply tfplan

After the import succeeds, rename the import file. Confirm a clean second plan.

mv imports.tf imports.tf.reviewed
terraform plan -detailed-exitcode

Expect No changes. Your infrastructure matches the configuration.
